about me

About my blog:

I find the most interesting and inspiring thoughts and work comes from the cross-over of disciplines, interests, and hobbies, and the coming together of seemingly unrelated things. In that spirit, my blog contains roamings and musings about a range of ideas, philosophies, and events.

About my photos:

I take photos when I notice something. I enjoy showing moments that tell stories or describe a place.

While I call Burlington, VT home, I am often traveling. Right now I am living in London, working towards a master's in Anthropology and Development at the London School of Economics.

In Spring of 2009 I was based in Asia to learn more about traditional communities and the challenges they face. Catch updates from that time on my blog. I was also continuing my web design and project management work.

From June 2006 - July 2008 I worked with the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University . I was project coordinator for the OpenNet Initiative, where I worked with ONI’s volunteers and contractors around the world to carry out testing for Internet filtering. I directed research assistants, conducted research and worked on reports. I was also a research assistant/cat herder for Jonathan Zittrain whilst he was writing his book, and a researcher and coordinator for the Interoperability and eInnovation project.

Before that, I consulted to Headwaters Strategy LLC, and IBM’s Institute for Business Value, and was an analyst at Ignition Ventures, a small consultancy that helps scientists commercialize the technology they create.

I received an A.B. in History from Brown University in 2005, where I studied the history of the American whaling industry, the growth of technology, and sailing. Here's the thesis, in pdf.

You’ll often find me on some kind of skis or in some kind of boat, or taking pictures, playing my cello, hiking around some wilderness area, or writing.
